!SOLD OUT! New Zealand singer-songwriter sensation Nadia Reid plays the North York Moors venue known as 'the greatest small venue on Earth' as part of a series of intimate solo shows in some of the UK's most magical venues. Known for her evocative lyrics and introspective folk-infused soundscapes she has been described as ‘an understated, wise guide through uncertain territory’. Listen out for compelling new music and file next to Joni Mitchell, Laura Marling, Gillian Welch and Sandy Denny.
Three albums - all of which featured in Best of Year awards - into an increasingly stellar career, Reid is no longer one of New Zealand's best kept secrets. Her last album, Out of My Province, took her to Matthew E White's Spacebomb Studios in Richmond, Virginia, where producer Trey Pollard surrounded her songs in luminous washes of southern country soul.
The Times reckoned it recalled "the airy jazzy mood and evocative yet oblique lyrical approach of Hejira-era Joni Mitchell."
While Uncut opined: "Her singing falls somewhere between the lithe grace of Sharon Van Etten and the power and drama of North Star Grassman-era Sandy Denny"
Solo she has the grace and style of Mazzy Star's Hope Sandoval. With a band she sounds like she's playing country rock with Teenage Fanclub.
Reid has been snowed under with plaudits for all three of her albums to date.
They include:
